My name is Steve Violetti, aka “VO” and I’m one of thousands of you who love to play and write original songs.
All of us songwriting hopefuls have dreamed the same dream and have a story to tell similar to the one I’m writing here for Vision 4 Music. I was asked to document it anyway as a favor, so don’t hesitate to send V4M your experience as a musician or songwriter trying to get your song heard and hopefully published.
Name: Tara Kalyn Norman
Age: 15 years
Home: San Antonio, TX
Style of Music: Acoustic, Folk, Singer/Songwriter
My name is Tara Kalyn Norman. I am a 15-year-old freshman at Brandeis High School in San Antonio, Texas and I play my originals as often as possible. I started out taking voice lessons with Alexis Anthony in the summer of 2007. Shortly after, she introduced me to guitar and the songs just started to flow from me. My music is an expression of my heart. When I have a special feeling, the songs come easily and may make you cry or laugh. My voice is often described as unique with a very “sweet” quality and my songs reflect many emotions in my acoustic, folk style.
I was a Youth Finalist in the Mountain Stage New Song contest and performed the opening for the Adult Competition at Cactus Café in Austin Texas. One of my songs, “Holding On” had the honor of receiving a web award for being recognized as a Monthly Finalist in the Folk category for June 2008 Song Of The Year Competition (http://www.songoftheyear.com/webawards/t/TaraKalynNorman.htm) which supports VH-1 Save The Music. I played the Houston Street Fair, Art-toberfest at Inn on the Riverwalk, G.I.G. on the Strip and the 5th Annual Art & Music Show at The Cove in San Antonio. I play monthly at Fralo’s Pizza in San Antonio. I have performed with Creative Arts Studio of San Antonio at Starbucks and The Witte Museum. I have been extremely well received at open mics in Texas such as Cactus Café, Ruta Maya’s, Pluckers, Irie Bean and Garrison Park Harbor in Austin; Scenic Loop Café, Casbeers, The Cove, La Taza and Lion & Rose in San Antonio; Riley’s in Hunter; Tavern in the Gruene in New Braunfels; Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos. As one open mic host said “Tara Kalyn had everybody right where she wanted them with her originals”. Along with loud applause, there are always comments such as “awesome” and “wow”, as the voice and the songs are so much more than what is expected from such a young musician.
I have recorded a cd with 10 of my acoustic originals. I am currently studying piano/keyboard to enhance my songs. I also plan to learn harmonica. I want to write songs for special charities dear to my heart. I love to perform my songs and relish in the warm response I have received from my friends, family and fans. Music will always be a part of my life and a reflection of my soul.
